Passivation, or the act of rendering something chemically passive, is the last step in the finishing process of stainless steel, precision-machined parts. It maximizes the ability of the steel to resist corrosion. This step allows SPM to remove any surface contamination from free irons particles that may have adhered to the part during the machining process, which, if not removed, may cause discoloration, rusting, or pitting.
We use a state-of-the-art passivation line for stainless steel parts that takes the finished components through the entire process. This process is done to comply with the rigorous specifications and requirements of medical device manufacturers. SPM’s exceptional passivation services ensure that our machined stainless steel parts can withstand corrosion and exceed medical and dental manufacturing standards.
