As a leader in medical and dental machining and manufacturing, our precision parts and components are expertly crafted at tight tolerances on state-of-the-art machines to ensure high-quality output every time. With passionate dedication and expertise to the high precision machining industry, Swiss Precision Machining (SPM) is defining medical standards within the industry. From the machinery we use and the parts we produce to our engineering and quality control processes, including our ISO 13485:2016 certification, learn more about how SPM is setting the bar.
Our machines and parts
At present, our 82,000-square-foot facility boasts 90 different machines. Of these machines, the majority are Swiss-turn machines, in addition to some Hass and Willemin-Macodel machinery, including the Willemin 408MT, 508MT2, and Micro-Vu Vertex 341 models. In 2021 alone, we added a new Hass vertical milling machine and seven new Swiss machines, in addition to another Willemin that is set to be delivered in 2022.
Our machines are all top-of-the-line pieces of equipment that allow us to manufacture parts and components with tight tolerances of ± 0.0001 (or one ten-thousandth of an inch). We manufacture parts for many different industries, including aerospace and automotive, but the medical and dental industries are our biggest customers—making up over 80% of SPM’s total business.
Our services
In business since 1979, we have been offering a full range of services for over 40 years and aim to always provide our customers with a high-quality product at a reasonable price. We do this by constantly working to machine and manufacture parts in the most efficient and cost-effective ways.
Within our largest industries, SPM’s services focus on the production of complex medical and dental components. The Willemin machinery in our facility offers us more versatility in the types of parts we machine, such as medical and dental implants for a variety of specialties, including orthopedic and robotic surgery.
Our processes
Across the company, the development, maintenance, and timely modification of detailed processes are what allow SPM to operate at such a high level. Within each of our teams, regular meetings occur to continuously check in on our processes and discuss what’s working well and what can be improved.
An example of these processes can be seen within our Quality Control team, who must pay careful attention to vision systems, calibration techniques, laboratory testing, self-automated assembly machines, surface-finish measuring instruments, and concentricity gages. This team has proven methods of checking and inspecting every part that is created at SPM to guarantee nothing but the highest quality product for the customers.
Our teams also meet to discuss certain parts for our clients and determine what the best course of action is in terms of how we machine them. Thanks to SPM’s extensive manufacturing expertise, we perform a significant amount of Design for Manufacturing (DFM), which allows us to advise our customers on how to improve the parts they need.
Our ISO certifications
SPM is an ISO-certified company, with both ISO 13485:2016 and ISO 9001:2015 certifications. The ISO 13485:2016 certification is imperative for any organization that works within the medical industry. To obtain this certification, we had to demonstrate that the medical devices SPM produces meet the necessary “customer and applicable regulatory requirements,” as stated on the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) website. Once achieved, this certification provides organizations like us with a quality management system, including set requirements that must be followed to maintain it.
