At SPM, we take great pride in having a positive impact on the world around us. On a grand scale, this includes micromachining life-saving medical components and tools, while on a local level, it means providing a supportive work environment and culture for our employees. Don’t just take our word for it, however—let some of SPM’s finest tell you themselves.
SPM employees share their experiences
“When the previous recession hit, our owner, Mike, made us a promise. He said, ‘We’re going to come back, we’re going to be stronger, and we’re going to be bigger than we ever were.’ And he kept that promise,” said Jon Baker, Shipping Supervisor. “That’s why I wanted to stay here. When [SPM] promises you something, they deliver.”
“I’ve lived in the United States for over 21 years. [On my first day at SPM], I was impressed by how nice people are, especially when you’re coming from a different country and your first language isn’t English,” said Tatiana Pavel, Lead Senior Manufacturing Engineer. “I fell in love with working in CNC machining, something I [previously] didn’t know anything about. That’s what I want to do for the rest of my life.”
“I love coming in and seeing all the people. If I can make somebody smile every day, that makes my day,” said Althea Gregory, former Human Resources Manager, who has since retired. “I started working for SPM in 1997 and have been here for over 21 years. It starts from the top—the owners have to care about the people, and they do. That’s what makes the difference”
“I feel good about this company; I like my job,” said Frank Avila, Machine Operator. “I got hired back in ‘84. I could have been with the company for over 30 years by now, but I had some personal problems. I came back in 2005; [SPM] rehired me. I’ll never forget that. They helped me out and gave me a lot of chances, so I’m back to stay.”
“SPM is about making our customers happy. We are really into Swiss tolerances, and we produce a lot of parts that our customers can’t get from other places because we do such an excellent job here,” said Brittany Johnson, Engineering Manager. “I love everything I get to do. I get to work on the computer and the machines, which is the best of both worlds and what I was looking for when I graduated college.”
