Employee health and safety are critical in manufacturing and are not something to be taken lightly. Employers must adhere to strict guidelines covering many areas and types of safety.
In fact, OSHA just recently added a new chapter to their technical manual, addressing noise. This aims to give guidance and information on noise hazards and issues in the workplace, helping keep employees safe and employers in compliance.
At Swiss Precision Machining, LLC, we take safety very seriously. We have a safety committee headed by our HR director and a manager, dedicated to this important topic. Our employees must wear earplugs and safety goggles, and we enforce this strictly.
Additionally, we hold a monthly meeting during which we address all concerns, and an employee from each department is designated to head the committee throughout the year, with a new group of employees chosen annually.
We have checklists for every area of our plant, and we always look for obstructed doorways, risk-posing areas, and possible safety threats. At the meetings, we discuss any issues that could be unsafe and/or need to be fixed, and we immediately have our maintenance staff take care of them. Each month, our employees on the safety committee are reassigned to other areas, to keep different eyes on the different areas and ensure nothing goes unseen.
We are also constantly checking fire extinguishers, machine covers, and more, ensuring everything is up to date and all machines are running safely. Beyond our own safety measures, we strictly adhere to all relevant OSHA regulations, which include the use of safety shoes, goggles, earplugs, etc.
Our employees are the heart of our business, and we do everything to keep them safe and healthy. Not just because we have to—but because this is truly a priority for us.
